How I Built a Mandala Generator to Design Our Mugs

From Code to Coffee Cup
Every mug in the Fortune Coffee shop tells a story — but one of them has a story that starts with a blank screen, a text editor, and a lot of late-night coding sessions. The Morning Sunshine Ceramic Mug features an original mandala design that I created using a custom Mandala Generator I built from scratch using PHP and JavaScript.
What Is the Mandala Generator?
The Mandala Generator is a custom web tool I programmed that algorithmically creates intricate, symmetrical mandala patterns. By tweaking parameters like petal count, radius, rotation, and color, the generator produces unique SVG files — infinitely scalable vector graphics that are crisp at any size.
What Can You Do With the SVG Files?
SVG files are incredibly versatile for product creation. Here are just a few ways they can be used:
- Cricut & cutting machines — Import the SVG directly into Cricut Design Space to cut vinyl, paper, fabric, and more with perfect precision.
- Printify — Convert the SVG to a high-resolution PNG and upload it to Printify to apply the design to mugs, t-shirts, tote bags, phone cases, and hundreds of other products.
- Other print-on-demand platforms — The same workflow applies to Printful, Redbubble, Zazzle, and similar services.
- Digital downloads — Sell the SVG files themselves as digital products for crafters and makers to use in their own projects. You can also find my ready-to-use Mandala SVG files for sale at Margaret's Forge on Etsy.
The Morning Sunshine Mug
The mandala on the Morning Sunshine Ceramic Mug was one of the first designs to come out of the generator. It pairs a radiant, symmetrical mandala with a positive quote — the kind of design that makes your morning coffee feel like a small ritual. Available in 11oz and 15oz, it's a one-of-a-kind piece you won't find anywhere else.
What's Next
The Mandala Generator keeps evolving. Future designs will explore seasonal themes, color palettes inspired by nature, and even customer-requested patterns. Stay tuned to the Fortune Coffee blog for new drops — and if you're a maker or crafter curious about the tool, feel free to reach out.
